NAME

6       sum - sum and count blocks in a file

SYNOPSIS

9       sum file

DESCRIPTION

12       Sum  calculates  and  prints  a 16-bit checksum for the named file, and
13       also prints the number of blocks in the file.  It is typically used  to
14       look for bad spots, or to validate a file communicated over some transā€
15       mission line.
