NAME

6 gif2tiff - create a TIFF file from a GIF87 format image file
7

SYNOPSIS

9 gif2tiff [ options ] input.gif output.tif
10

DESCRIPTION

12 Gif2tiff converts a file in the GIF87 format to TIFF. The TIFF image
13 is created as a palette image, with samples compressed with the Lempel-
14 Ziv & Welch algorithm (Compression=5). These characteristics can over‐
15 ridden, or explicitly specified with the options described below.
16

OPTIONS

18 -c Specify a compression scheme to use when writing image data: -c
19 none for no compression, -c packbits for the PackBits compres‐
20 sion algorithm, -c zip for the Deflate compression algorithm,
21 and -c lzw for Lempel-Ziv & Welch (the default).
22
23 -r Write data with a specified number of rows per strip; by default
24 the number of rows/strip is selected so that each strip is
25 approximately 8 kilobytes.
26

NOTES

28 The program is based on Paul Haeberli's fromgif program which, in turn,
29 is based on Marcel J.E. Mol's GIF reader.
30

BUGS

32 Should have more options to control output format.
