NAME

12 getchar - get a byte from a stdin stream
13

SYNOPSIS

15       #include <stdio.h>
16
17       int getchar(void);
18
19

DESCRIPTION

21 The getchar() function shall be equivalent to getc(stdin).
22

RETURN VALUE

24       Refer to fgetc().
25

ERRORS

27       Refer to fgetc().
28
29 The following sections are informative.
30

EXAMPLES

32       None.
33

APPLICATION USAGE

35 If the integer value returned by getchar() is stored into a variable of
36 type char and then compared against the integer constant EOF, the com‐
37 parison may never succeed, because sign-extension of a variable of type
38 char on widening to integer is implementation-defined.
39

RATIONALE

41       None.
42

FUTURE DIRECTIONS

44       None.
