DESCRIPTION

13       ipc()  is  a  common  kernel entry point for the System V IPC calls for
14       messages, semaphores, and shared memory.   call  determines  which  IPC
15       function  to  invoke;  the  other  arguments  are passed through to the
16       appropriate call.

18       User-space programs should call  the  appropriate  functions  by  their
19       usual  names.   Only  standard  library implementors and kernel hackers
20       need to know about ipc().

CONFORMING TO

23       ipc() is Linux-specific, and should not be used in programs intended to
24       be portable.

NOTES

27       On some architectures—for example x86-64 and ARM—there is no ipc() sys‐
28       tem call; instead, msgctl(2), semctl(2), shmctl(2), and  so  on  really
29       are implemented as separate system calls.
