6 lexnames - List of WordNet lexicographer file names and numbers

9 During WordNet development synsets are organized into forty-five lexi‐
10 cographer files based on syntactic category and logical groupings.
11 grind(1) processes these files and produces a database suitable for use
12 with the WordNet library, interface code, and other applications. The
13 format of the lexicographer files is described in wninput(5).
14 A file number corresponds to each lexicographer file. File numbers are
16 encoded in several parts of the WordNet system as an efficient way to
17 indicate a lexicographer file name. The file lexnames lists the map‐
18 ping between file names and numbers, and can be used by programs or end
19 users to correlate the two.
20 File Format
22 Each line in lexnames contains 3 tab separated fields, and is termi‐
23 nated with a newline character. The first field is the two digit deci‐
24 mal integer file number. (The first file in the list is numbered 00.)
25 The second field is the name of the lexicographer file that is repre‐
26 sented by that number, and the third field is an integer that indicates
27 the syntactic category of the synsets contained in the file. This is
28 simply a shortcut for programs and scripts, since the syntactic cate‐
29 gory is also part of the lexicographer file's name.
