NAME

4     issue.net — identification file for telnet sessions

DESCRIPTION

7     The file /etc/issue.net is a text file which contains a message or system
8     identification to be printed before the login prompt of a telnet session.
9     It may contain various `%-char' (or, alternatively, '\-char') sequences.
10     The following sequences are supported by telnetd:
11           %l     - show the current tty
12           %h, %n
13                  - show the system node name (FQDN)
14           %D, %o
15                  - show the name of the NIS domain
16           %d, %t
17                  - show the current time and date
18           %s     - show the name of the operating system
19           %m     - show the machine (hardware) type
20           %r     - show the operating system release
21           %v     - show the operating system version
22           %%     - display a single '%' character
