NAME

6       sane-agfafocus - SANE backend for AGFA Focus flatbed scanners

DESCRIPTION

9       The  sane-agfafocus library implements a SANE (Scanner Access Now Easy)
10       backend that  provides  access  to  AGFA  Focus  flatbed  scanners.  At
11       present, the following scanners are supported from this backend:

13              AGFA Focus GS Scanner (6 bit gray scale) (untested)
14              AGFA Focus Lineart Scanner (lineart) (untested)
15              AGFA Focus II (8 bit gray scale) (untested)

30       All of these scanners are pre-SCSI-2, and do not even  report  properly
31       to  SCSI  Inquiry.   This is typically evident in SCSI bus scans, where
32       the scanner will come  up  with  only  garbage  as  vendor  and  models
33       strings.

DEVICE NAMES

37       This backend expects device names of the form:

41       Where  special is either the path-name for the special device that cor‐
42       responds to a SCSI scanner. For SCSI scanners, the special device  name
43       must  be  a  generic  SCSI device or a symlink to such a device.  Under
44       Linux, such a device name could be /dev/sga or /dev/sge,  for  example.

CONFIGURATION

48       The  contents of the agfafocus.conf file is a list of device names that
49       correspond to AGFA Focus scanners.  Empty lines and lines starting with
50       a  hash  mark  (#)  are  ignored.  A sample configuration file is shown

ENVIRONMENT

71       SANE_CONFIG_DIR
72              This environment variable specifies the list of directories that
73              may contain the configuration file.  Under UNIX, the directories
74              are separated by a colon (`:'), under OS/2, they  are  separated
75              by a semi-colon (`;').  If this variable is not set, the config‐
76              uration file is searched in two default directories: first,  the
77              current working directory (".") and then in /etc/sane.d.  If the
78              value of the environment variable ends with the directory  sepa‐
79              rator character, then the default directories are searched after
80              the explicitly  specified  directories.   For  example,  setting
81              SANE_CONFIG_DIR  to  "/tmp/config:"  would result in directories
82              "tmp/config", ".", and "/etc/sane.d"  being  searched  (in  this

86              If  the  library  was  compiled with debug support enabled, this

MISSING FUNCTIONALITY

110       Uploading of dither matrices and tonecurves has been  implemented,  but
111       so far has not proven to be useful for anything.  For this reason these
112       options have been disabled.

BUGS

116       The scanners that do not support disconnect  have  problems  with  SCSI
117       timeouts  if  the SCSI bus gets loaded, eg. if you do a kernel build at
118       the same time as scanning.  To see if your scanner supports disconnect,
119       run  "SANE_DEBUG_AGFAFOCUS=128  scanimage  -L"  in  sh and look for the
120       "disconnect:" line)

DEBUG

124       If you have problems with SANE not detecting your  scanner,  make  sure
125       the  Artec  backend is disabled.  Somehow, this backend causes at least
126       my scanner not to respond correctly to SCSI inquiry commands.

128       If  you  encounter  a  bug  please   set   the   environment   variable
129       SANE_DEBUG_AGFAFOCUS  to  128  and  try to regenerate the problem. Then
130       send me a report with the log attached.

140              The AGFA ACS and ARCUS scanners are similar to the  FOCUS  scan‐
141              ners.   The  driver  could probably be extended to support these
142              scanners without too many changes.  I do not have access to such
143              scanners, and cannot add support for it.  However, if you are in
144              possession of such a scanner, I could be helpful in adding  sup‐
145              port for these scanners.

147              The  AGFA  HORIZON  scanners  are  SCSI-2 scanners, and it would
148              probably be easier to support these scanners in a SCSI-2 compli‐
149              ant backend.
