DESCRIPTION

12       GNOME shell provides core user interface functions for the GNOME 3
13       desktop, like switching to windows and launching applications. GNOME
14       shell takes advantage of the capabilities of modern graphics hardware
15       and introduces innovative user interface concepts to provide a visually
16       attractive and easy to use experience.

18       gnome-shell is a required component of the GNOME desktop, i.e. it is
19       listed in the RequiredComponents field of
20       /usr/share/gnome-session/sessions/gnome.session. It is started in the
21       window manager phase of the session.
