NAME

13 cbrt, cbrtf, cbrtl — cube root functions
14

SYNOPSIS

16       #include <math.h>
17
18       double cbrt(double x);
19       float cbrtf(float x);
20       long double cbrtl(long double x);
21

DESCRIPTION

23 The functionality described on this reference page is aligned with the
24 ISO C standard. Any conflict between the requirements described here
25 and the ISO C standard is unintentional. This volume of POSIX.1‐2008
26 defers to the ISO C standard.
27
28 These functions shall compute the real cube root of their argument x.
29

RETURN VALUE

31 Upon successful completion, these functions shall return the cube root
32       of x.
33
34 If x is NaN, a NaN shall be returned.
35
36       If x is ±0 or ±Inf, x shall be returned.
37

ERRORS

39       No errors are defined.
40
41 The following sections are informative.
42

EXAMPLES

44       None.
45

APPLICATION USAGE

47       None.
48

RATIONALE

50 For some applications, a true cube root function, which returns nega‐
51 tive results for negative arguments, is more appropriate than pow(x,
52       1.0/3.0), which returns a NaN for x less than 0.
53

FUTURE DIRECTIONS

55       None.
