DESCRIPTION

23       For  towlower():  The functionality described on this reference page is
24       aligned with the ISO C standard. Any conflict between the  requirements
25       described  here and the ISO C standard is unintentional. This volume of
26       POSIX.1‐2008 defers to the ISO C standard.

28       The towlower() and towlower_l() functions  have  as  a  domain  a  type
29       wint_t,  the value of which the application shall ensure is a character
30       representable as a wchar_t, and a wide-character code corresponding  to
31       a  valid  character in the current locale or the value of WEOF.  If the
32       argument has any other value, the behavior is undefined.  If the  argu‐
33       ment of towlower() or towlower_l() represents an uppercase wide-charac‐
34       ter code, and there exists  a  corresponding  lowercase  wide-character
35       code  as defined by character type information in the current locale or
36       in the locale represented by locale, respectively (category  LC_CTYPE),
37       the  result  shall  be the corresponding lowercase wide-character code.
38       All other arguments in the domain are returned unchanged.

40       The behavior is undefined if the locale argument to towlower_l() is the
41       special  locale object LC_GLOBAL_LOCALE or is not a valid locale object

RETURN VALUE

45       Upon successful completion, the towlower() and  towlower_l()  functions
46       shall return the lowercase letter corresponding to the argument passed;
47       otherwise, they shall return the argument unchanged.
