15 The fontglide program reads text from a subprocess and puts it on the
16 screen using large characters that glide in from the edges, assemble,
17 then disperse. Alternately, it can simply scroll whole sentences from
18 right to left.

21 fontglide accepts the following options:
22 -window Draw on a newly-created window. This is the default.
24 -root Draw on the root window.
26 -install
28 Install a private colormap for the window.
29 -visual visual
31 Specify which visual to use. Legal values are the name of a
32 visual class, or the id number (decimal or hex) of a specific
33 visual.
34 -delay usecs
36 The delay between steps of the animation, in microseconds:
37 default 10000.
38 -page With this option, a page full of text will glide in, and dis‐
40 perse.
41 -scroll With this option, sentences will scroll by from right to left.
43 -random The default is to pick randomly between -page and -scroll.
45 -speed float
47 How fast to animate; 2 means twice as fast, 0.5 means half as
48 fast. Default 1.0.
49 -linger float
51 How long to leave the assembled text on the screen in -page
52 mode; 2 means twice as long, 0.5 means half as long. Default
53 1.0. (The more words there are on the screen, the longer it
54 lingers.)
55 -program sh-command
57 The command to run to generate the text to display. This
58 option may be any string acceptable to /bin/sh. The program
59 will be run at the end of a pipe, and any words that it prints
60 to stdout will end up on the window. (Whitespace and line
61 breaks are ignored.) If the program exits, it will be launched
62 again after we have processed all the text it produced.
63 Default: xscreensaver-text(1).
64 -font string
66 The base font pattern to use when loading fonts. The default
67 is to search for any Latin1 scalable proportional fonts on the
68 system. Once a base font is selected, it will be loaded in a
69 random size.
70 -bw int How thick an outline to draw around the characters. Default 2
72 pixels.
73 -trails Leave "vapor trails" behind the moving text. Default off.
75 -no-db Turn off double-buffering. It may be faster, but will flicker.
77 -debug Draw some boxes showing character metrics, and print the name
79 of the current font to stderr.
80 -fps Display the current frame rate and CPU load.
