9 Group contains for each group the following information:

12 encrypted password
13 numerical group ID
14 a comma separated list of all users allowed in the group

16 This is an ASCII file. The fields are separated by colons; Each group
17 is separated from the next by a new-line. If the password field is
18 null, no password is demanded.

20 This file resides in directory /etc. Because of the encrypted pass‐
21 words, it can and does have general read permission and can be used,
22 for example, to map numerical group ID's to names.
