NAME

6       dumpe2fs - dump ext2/ext3/ext4 filesystem information

SYNOPSIS

9       dumpe2fs  [  -bfghixV  ]  [  -o  superblock=superblock  ]  [  -o block‐
10       size=blocksize ] device

DESCRIPTION

13       dumpe2fs prints the super block and blocks group  information  for  the
14       filesystem present on device.

16       Note:  When used with a mounted filesystem, the printed information may
17       be old or inconsistent.

OPTIONS

20       -b     print the blocks which are reserved as bad in the filesystem.

22       -o superblock=superblock
23              use the block superblock when examining  the  filesystem.   This
24              option  is  not usually needed except by a filesystem wizard who
25              is examining the remains of a very badly corrupted filesystem.

33       -f     force  dumpe2fs  to display a filesystem even though it may have
34              some filesystem feature flags which dumpe2fs may not  understand

37       -g     display  the  group descriptor information in a machine readable
38              colon-separated value format.   The  fields  displayed  are  the
39              group  number;  the  number of the first block in the group; the
40              superblock location (or -1 if not present); the range of  blocks
41              used  by the group descriptors (or -1 if not present); the block
42              bitmap location; the inode bitmap location;  and  the  range  of
43              blocks used by the inode table.

45       -h     only display the superblock information and not any of the block
46              group descriptor detail information.

48       -i     display the filesystem  data  from  an  image  file  created  by
49              e2image, using device as the pathname to the image file.

51       -m     If the mmp feature is enabled on the filesystem, check if device

EXIT CODE

62       dumpe2fs exits with a return code of 0 if the operation completed with‐
63       out errors.  It will exit with a non-zero return code if there are  any
64       errors,  such as problems reading a valid superblock, bad checksums, or
65       if the device is in use by another node and -m is specified.

68       You may need to know the physical filesystem  structure  to  understand
