PROLOG

6 This manual page is part of the POSIX Programmer's Manual. The Linux
7 implementation of this interface may differ (consult the corresponding
8 Linux manual page for details of Linux behavior), or the interface may
9 not be implemented on Linux.
10

NAME

12 getwchar — get a wide character from a stdin stream
13

SYNOPSIS

15       #include <wchar.h>
16
17       wint_t getwchar(void);
18

DESCRIPTION

20 The functionality described on this reference page is aligned with the
21 ISO C standard. Any conflict between the requirements described here
22 and the ISO C standard is unintentional. This volume of POSIX.1‐2017
23 defers to the ISO C standard.
24
25 The getwchar() function shall be equivalent to getwc(stdin).
26

RETURN VALUE

28       Refer to fgetwc().
29

ERRORS

31       Refer to fgetwc().
32
33 The following sections are informative.
34

EXAMPLES

36       None.
37

APPLICATION USAGE

39 If the wint_t value returned by getwchar() is stored into a variable of
40 type wchar_t and then compared against the wint_t macro WEOF, the
41 result may be incorrect. Only the wint_t type is guaranteed to be able
42 to represent any wide character and WEOF.
43

RATIONALE

45       None.
46

FUTURE DIRECTIONS

48       None.
