NAME

12 gettimeofday — get the date and time
13

SYNOPSIS

15       #include <sys/time.h>
16
17       int gettimeofday(struct timeval *restrict tp, void *restrict tzp);
18

DESCRIPTION

20 The gettimeofday() function shall obtain the current time, expressed as
21 seconds and microseconds since the Epoch, and store it in the timeval
22 structure pointed to by tp. The resolution of the system clock is
23       unspecified.
24
25 If tzp is not a null pointer, the behavior is unspecified.
26

RETURN VALUE

28 The gettimeofday() function shall return 0 and no value shall be
29 reserved to indicate an error.
30

ERRORS

32       No errors are defined.
33
34 The following sections are informative.
35

EXAMPLES

37       None.
38

APPLICATION USAGE

40 Applications should use the clock_gettime() function instead of the
41       obsolescent gettimeofday() function.
42

RATIONALE

44       None.
45

FUTURE DIRECTIONS

47 The gettimeofday() function may be removed in a future version.
