PROLOG

6 This manual page is part of the POSIX Programmer's Manual. The Linux
7 implementation of this interface may differ (consult the corresponding
8 Linux manual page for details of Linux behavior), or the interface may
9 not be implemented on Linux.

NAME

12 timer_delete — delete a per-process timer
13

SYNOPSIS

15 #include <time.h>
16
17       int timer_delete(timer_t timerid);
18

DESCRIPTION

20 The timer_delete() function deletes the specified timer, timerid, pre‐
21 viously created by the timer_create() function. If the timer is armed
22 when timer_delete() is called, the behavior shall be as if the timer is
23 automatically disarmed before removal. The disposition of pending sig‐
24 nals for the deleted timer is unspecified.
25
26 The behavior is undefined if the value specified by the timerid argu‐
27 ment to timer_delete() does not correspond to a timer ID returned by
28 timer_create() but not yet deleted by timer_delete().
29

RETURN VALUE

31 If successful, the timer_delete() function shall return a value of
32 zero. Otherwise, the function shall return a value of -1 and set errno
33 to indicate the error.
34

ERRORS

36 No errors are defined.
37
38 The following sections are informative.

EXAMPLES

41 None.
42

APPLICATION USAGE

44 None.
45

RATIONALE

47 If an implementation detects that the value specified by the timerid
48 argument to timer_delete() does not correspond to a timer ID returned
49 by timer_create() but not yet deleted by timer_delete(), it is recom‐
50 mended that the function should fail and report an [EINVAL] error.
51

FUTURE DIRECTIONS

53 None.
