NAME

6 zgrep - search possibly compressed files for a regular expression
7

SYNOPSIS

9 zgrep [ grep_options ] [ -e ] pattern filename...
10

DESCRIPTION

12 The zgrep command invokes grep on compressed or gzipped files. All op‐
13 tions specified are passed directly to grep. If no file is specified,
14 then the standard input is decompressed if necessary and fed to grep.
15 Otherwise the given files are uncompressed if necessary and fed to
16 grep.
17
18 If the GREP environment variable is set, zgrep uses it as the grep pro‐
19 gram to be invoked.
20

EXIT STATUS

22 Exit status is 0 for a match, 1 for no matches, and 2 if trouble.
23

BUGS

25 The following grep options are not supported: --dereference-recursive
26 (-R), --directories (-d), --exclude, --exclude-from, --exclude-dir,
27 --include, --null (-Z), --null-data (-z), and --recursive (-r).
