DESCRIPTION

16       The  audial  program generates touch tones suitable for dialing a North
17       American telephone.  audial can also recognize touch tones and  produce
18       the corresponding string.

GENERAL OPTIONS

21       The following options may be used in either dial or recognition mode:

23       -audio servername
24               This  option specifies the Network Audio System server on which
25               the files should be played.

DIAL OPTIONS

28       The following options may be used in dial mode:

30       -volume 0-100
31               This option specifies the volume at which the  data  should  be
32               played as a percentage of the maximum possible volume.  The de‐
33               fault is 100 percent.

35       -spacing milliseconds
36               This option specifies the number of milliseconds to wait in be‐
37               tween each digit.  The default is 100.

39       -pause milliseconds
40               This  option specifies the number of milliseconds to wait when‐
41               ever a comma (,) is used in a dial string.  The default is 400.

43       -duration milliseconds
44               This option specifies the duration of each  tone  in  millisec‐
45               onds.  The default is 100.

DIALING STRING

48       The following characters may be used in a dialing string:

50       0123456789*#
51               The corresponding touch tone is generated.

53       abcd    Tones  representing the 4 "function" keys often found on a key‐
54               pad are generated.

56       ,       A blank tone whose length is specified by the -pause option  is
57               generated.

59       Any other characters are ignored.

RECOGNITION OPTIONS

62       -recognize
63               Enables  recognition  mode.   audial  will attempt to recognize
64               touch tones from the input device and output the  corresponding
65               character.

67       -microphone
68               Use microphone gain levels on the audio input device.  If a mi‐
69               crophone is plugged into the  audio  input  jack,  this  option
70               should be used.

72       -gain 0-100
73               This option specifies the input gain level.  The default is 95.

75       -time seconds
76               This option specifies how long to attempt the recognition.  The
77               default is forever.

ENVIRONMENT VARIABLES

80       The following environment variables are used by audial:

82       AUDIOSERVER
83               This specifies the name of default audio server to  contact  if
84               no name is explicitly given on the command line.

86       DISPLAY This  specifies  the  name  of  an X Window System display that
87               should be assumed to also have a  corresponding  Network  Audio
88               System server.
