NAME

4     vipw, vigr — edit the password or group files

SYNOPSIS

7     vipw [-V] [--version]
8     vigr [-V] [--version]

DESCRIPTION

11     Vipw edits the password file after setting the appropriate locks, and
12     does any necessary processing after the password file is unlocked.  If
13     the password file is already locked for editing by another user, vipw
14     will ask you to try again later. The default editor for vipw is vi(1).
15     Vigr edits the group file in the same manner as vipw.

ENVIRONMENT

18     If the following environment variable exists it will be utilized by vipw:

20     EDITOR  The editor specified by the string EDITOR will be invoked instead
21             of the default editor vi(1).
