6       file - determine file type

SYNOPSIS

9       file file ...

DESCRIPTION

12       File performs a series of tests on each argument in an attempt to clas‐
13       sify it.  If an argument appears to be ascii, file examines  the  first
14       512 bytes and tries to guess its language.

BUGS

17       It  often makes mistakes.  In particular it often suggests that command
18       files are C programs.
