6       su  -  substitute user id temporarily

SYNOPSIS

9       su [ userid ]

DESCRIPTION

12       Su  demands  the  password of the specified userid, and if it is given,
13       changes to that userid and invokes the Shell sh(1) without changing the
14       current  directory  or  the user environment (see environ(5)).  The new
15       user ID stays in force until the Shell exits.

17       If no userid is specified, `root' is assumed.  To remind the super-user
18       of  his  responsibilities,  the  Shell  substitutes  `#'  for its usual
19       prompt.
