DESCRIPTION

13       fwbuilder  is  the  Graphic  User Interface (GUI) component of Firewall
14       Builder.

16       Firewall Builder consists of a GUI and set of policy compilers for var‐
17       ious  firewall platforms. It helps users maintain a database of objects
18       and allows policy editing using simple  drag-and-drop  operations.  GUI
19       generates firewall description in the form of XML file, which compilers
20       then interpret and generate platform-specific code. Several  algorithms
21       are provided for automated network objects discovery and bulk import of
22       data. The GUI and policy compilers  are  completely  independent,  this
23       provides for a consistent abstract model and the same GUI for different
24       firewall platforms.

26       At the moment of this writing Firewall Builder supports firewalls based
27       on  iptables (available on Linux, kernel 2.4.x, see fwb_ipt(1)), ipfil‐
28       ter (available on a variety of platforms including  *BSD,  Solaris  and
29       others,   see  fwb_ipf(1))  and  pf  (available  on  OpenBSD  3.0,  see
30       fwb_pf(1))
