6       motd.news - Message of the day information for readers

DESCRIPTION

9       This file, found in pathetc/motd.news, contains local information for
10       news readers in a free-form format.  The entire file is returned
11       verbatim to any client that issues the LIST MOTD command.  This might
12       be used for new information, notification of upcoming downtime, or
13       similar purposes.

15       Make sure that the motd.news file is encoded in UTF-8.  It should also
16       be "dot-stuffed", that is to say that a line beginning with a dot
17       should have that dot doubled.

19       Be aware that use of the LIST MOTD command is not widespread and most
20       news clients will never ask for this file.

22       If this file is missing, it is not an error.  The server will just send
23       the client the appropriate response for an unmaintained motd.news file.
