6       motd.news - Message of the day information for readers

DESCRIPTION

9       This file, found in pathetc/motd.news, contains local information for
10       news readers in a free-form format.  The entire file is returned verba‐
11       tim to any client that issues the LIST MOTD command.  This might be
12       used for new information, notification of upcoming downtime, or similar
13       purposes.

15       Be aware that use of the LIST MOTD command is not widespread and most
16       news clients will never ask for this file.

18       If this file is missing, it is not an error.  The server will just send
19       the client an empty response.
