DESCRIPTION

14       mtracebis   is  a  program  for  initiating  multicast  traceroute,  or
15       "mtrace", queries.

17       It can initiate two types of mtrace queries: weak and group.

19       Weak tests whether the interfaces towards the source are multicast  en‐
20       abled and is initiated by supplying only the multicast source address.

22       Group  tests whether there is multicast routing protocol state for par‐
23       ticular multicast group and is initiated by supplying mutlicast  source
24       and group.

26       The  first  query sent is a full query, capable of crossing the network
27       all the way to the source. If this fails, hop-by-hop queries are initi‐
28       ated.

30       Hop-by-hop queries start by requesting only a response from the nearest
31       router.  Following that,  next  query  is  extended  to  the  next  two
32       routers,  and so on...  until a set of routers is tested for connectiv‐
33       ity.
