NAME

6 getwc - get a wide character from a stream
7

SYNOPSIS

9       #include <stdio.h>
10       #include <wchar.h>
11
12       wint_t getwc(FILE *stream);
13
14

DESCRIPTION

16 The getwc() function shall be equivalent to fgetwc(), except that if it
17 is implemented as a macro it may evaluate stream more than once, so the
18 argument should never be an expression with side effects.
19

RETURN VALUE

21       Refer to fgetwc() .
22

ERRORS

24       Refer to fgetwc() .
25
26 The following sections are informative.
27

EXAMPLES

29       None.
30

APPLICATION USAGE

32 Since it may be implemented as a macro, getwc() may treat incorrectly a
33 stream argument with side effects. In particular, getwc(*f++) does not
34 necessarily work as expected. Therefore, use of this function is not
35 recommended; fgetwc() should be used instead.
